Al Consoli

Director of Instruction

I am a native of Reading, Pennsylvania and thanks to my grandfather’s desire to one day have a golfing buddy, I received my first golf lesson at age 8. I played throughout my youth and received several scholarship offers to play in college, however my sole focus was to pursue a career in medicine. I began my collegiate career at the University of Notre Dame and later received my B.S. in Biology from American University. I went on to enroll in the Masters program at New York Medical College and later attended Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2001.

Realizing that my passions lie elsewhere, I made the transition into the golf business in 2003 going to work for Michael Breed, the 2012 PGA National Teacher of the Year, Golf Digest’s Chief Digital Instructor, and current host “A New Breed of Golf ” on SiriusXM Radio. I continued furthering my professional career by attaining Assistant Golf Professional positions at some of the most elite clubs in the New York Metropolitan area, including my first full time teaching position at Westchester Country Club in Rye, NY, the longtime host of the PGA Tour’s Buick Classic. I proudly attained my PGA membership in 2010 and have had the honor of being mentored by 6 of the current Top 100 Teachers in the United States. I became a certified Plane Truth Instructor in 2012, the organization founded by World Golf Teachers Hall of Famer Jim Hardy.

I moved to The Woodlands, Texas in 2013 and served as the Head Golf Professional at Willow Creek Golf Club, Teaching Professional/Lead Club Fitter at the Tournament Course at the Woodlands Country Club, Director of Instruction at Sweetwater Country Club, and most recently Director of Player Development at Gleneagles Country Club.

While I enjoyed my time in Texas, I was in search for both a club and community that I could call my home for many years to come. I firmly believe that St. Johns Golf and Country Club’s commitment to excellence provides an exciting future for its members, the community, and our new teaching and coaching program. I consider becoming the Director of Instruction a tremendous professional honor and I am excited to learn and share information with the current staff. I look forward to helping golfers master the ability to produce a correct, repetitive impact and receive the information and understanding necessary to enhance their golfing experience.
