Junior Golf
St. Johns Golf & Country Club is committed to the development of youth in the game of golf. The 2008 Junior Golf Certification Program is designed to allow the junior golfer the opportunity to learn, practice, play and enjoy the game of golf. We believe that golf is a game that can be enjoyed for a lifetime. Our goals are to introduce the game to novices and encourage the development of our more experienced players. This program will allow any junior golfer between the ages of 8 and 17 to practice and play without adult supervision.
Levels 1-3
Requires completion of the U.S. Kids Golf “Personal Tee” learning program. To complete the first three levels, the student must pass all of the written tests included in the work books.
Level 4
Requires the student to schedule and pass a playing test with a member of the golf professional staff. This level is designed to challenge the student’s playing ability and insure that they are fully prepared to play the golf course without adult supervision. The playing test will consist of 9-holes and the student will be expected to display the following:
- Demonstrate proper etiquette while playing
- Show an understanding of the rules of golf
- Maintain pace of play of 2 hours and 5 minutes
- Successfully meet a target score which will be based on the age of the junior
Completion of the Program
Completion of the 4 levels is designed to test the commitment, skill and knowledge of the junior golfer. Our juniors are the future and we are committed to sharing all the knowledge and tradition of this great game.
Once the students have completed Level 2 they will be allowed to use the practice facility without supervision. Upon completion of the Level 4, they will be granted permission to play the course without adult supervision. The junior must abide by the current club rules and regulations. They will also be subject to ongoing monitoring of both performance and behavior. If at any time a junior is seen behaving in an unacceptable manner, the violation will be documented and playing privileges may be revoked.
Testing can take as little as a week and the exact timeline will be determined by the willingness of the student to complete the work. The testing may be completed one of two ways:
- Attend a week of summer camp (Some students may require more time.)
- Sign up for a testing session
Testing Session Dates
- Thursday evenings from 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., starting June 19th
- Saturday mornings from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m., starting June 21st
